Vuelven los rumores, con más fuerza de nunca, de la presumible compra de Tuenti por parte de Telefónica. Lo comentan, entre otros, Adrián Segovia - que apunta a que aunque Facebook seguiría siendo el líder en España, Telefónica saldría muy beneficiada comercialmente en publi online - y Carlos Blanco, haciéndose eco de que las cifras de la presunta venta están entre 75 y 80 millones de euros, sólo un poco más que la valoración de su última ampliación.

Si Telefónica compra Tuenti estaremos ante una gran noticia para el sector en España, una historia de éxito para una compañía joven y la reactivación de un mercado en el que no abundan estas noticias (aunque hace apenas unos días que Permira se hizo con eDreams, Loogic). Además es un cambio de rumbo en la estrategia Telefónica que podría crear tendencia, la de "comprar en lugar de construir desde cero", como apuntaba esta mañana Díez Ferre. Tras el fracaso del músculo de Telefónica frente a la red de Tuenti, una compra supondría no sólo adquirir producto sino incorporar a un equipo capaz de construir una red con millones de usuarios, algo que no abunda precisamente.

A pesar del "ciclón Facebook", el mercado de los servicios de redes sociales parece bastante estable, con Tuenti bien posicionado en el público más joven y disfrutando ambos de una pasión inversora en campañas en entornos sociales que les está permitiendo crecer como nadie en ingresos en España. La amenaza de Tuenti es tanto la capacidad tecnológica de Facebook, que sobre todo fuera de su propio site está consiguiendo que todos trabajen para él, pero también la entrada de nuevos actores con un enfoque más cercano a sus últimos movimientos, muy centrados en ocio que han reforzado con los Tuenti juegos. En este escenario es razonable que tuenti valga mucho, pero no que haya crecido significativamente desde valoraciones de años anteriores

A pesar de todas las bromas que se pueden leer en Twitter al respecto, lo razonable es que en Telefónica hayan tomado nota de lo que ha funcionado y lo que no: dar autonomía a quienes han tenido éxito y no obstaculizar con su propia inercia hacia la burocracia la innovación en el producto. Sería contraproducente que lo integrasen demasiado en la oferta de Movistar como estaba Keteke, cuando lo realmente interesante con Tuenti sería crecer hacia otros mercados: latinoamérica y paísess emergentes donde Tuenti va a necesitar invertir mucho en marketing y tener músculo financiero para ello.

El sector

Y finalmente quedaría dibujado un nuevo escenario en el sector si Telefónica vuelve a apostar fuerte, comprar Tuenti es comprar el único candidato en venta en el área de los servicios de redes sociales, lo que supone capacidad para empujar otros muchos proyectos adicionales. También la pérdida de "neutralidad" de Tuenti puede condicionar su comercialización, pero ese sería un tema menor porque impactaría sólo en el sector teleco. Lo interesante es que Telefónica volvería a mandar un mensaje años después y quienes quieran tener una posición de liderazgo en internet en español deberían tomar nota.

3. Be creative

We all need a creative outlet and blogging will allow you to explore, expand and experiment with your creative side. Keeping a blog isn’t just for writers either. You can use it to showcase your home improvement projects, paintings or herb garden and record and publish information via podcasts or video if those mediums hold more appeal for you.

4. Make friends

I didn’t start a blog to make friends and never expected to meet people through blogging but it just happens. Some blog visitors naturally relate to your blog content, they identify with you because of it and contact you. Thanks to my blog I’m in touch with people who I’d never have been in contact with otherwise. It still surprises me and the network of people you can engage with through blogging is a global one.

5. Improve your search engine ranking

If you have your own website adding a blog and updating it regularly could give you the edge over your competitors because the search engines prefer sites with new content. Of course you need to be writing about the topics your target audience will look for with the search engines to experience this benefit and you the more you write and the longer you keep updating your blog the greater the benefits.

6. Gain expert status

If you’re trying to establish a career or launch a new one maintaining a blog can position you as an expert. Having a website and blog is part of the package these days. Even if you want to get featured in the print press the first thing any journalist who wants to find out about you does is use the Internet. You want people who Google you to find your blog and not another website with information you have no control over.

7. Earn money

If you build up a sizeable readership you might be able to create a second income stream from your blog. Don’t give up your day job but if you’re passionate about your topic and believe it’s possible you may well be able to make it happen.

8. Plan better

A blog is a brilliant way to plan anything from a business to a book, a wedding to a wake. You could even use one a blog to plan a blog. Here’s how. Most Wordpress blogs have a categories section so if you’re collating information you can easily divide it into sections which make it easy for you to browse and locate information. You can then access that information any time from any place as long as you have access to a computer and the Internet. For example, a keen cook could use a blog to organise all her favourite recipes or a teacher could use it to keep ideas for lessons, organise lesson plans and keep notes on students. As a simple system for content management, blogs are invaluable.

9. Keep your mind active

Although you can easily start blogging right now by setting up a simple blog and telling people to visit it, most bloggers take a while to get good at blogging. There’s lots to learn and because the Internet is constantly evolving even professional bloggers who’ve been blogging for five years or longer are still learning new things about it. The good thing is that the learning curve isn’t too steep so you can set up a blog and learn as you go. The skills blogging will teach you such as writing, marketing, networking and computer literacy will come in useful in other areas of your life and constantly learning new things keeps your mind active and engaged.

10. Share your story

We all have a story to tell. At the very least blogging is a fabulous way of keeping a journal of your life, art, family, travels, hobbies or studies. It creates a permanent record you can look back on any time. Your kids might even find it interesting to look back on one day. Who knows, maybe the whole world will?

Der Glückwunsch des Monats geht an Österreich, das gerade vom Europäischen Gerichtshof verurteilt wurde, weil es die Vorratsdatenspeicherung noch nicht umgesetzt hat.

Bereits im Februar konnte man Schweden zu dem EuGH-Urteil gratulieren, 2009 schon Griechenland und Irland. Gegen Luxemburg wurde im Juni ein Verfahren eingeleitet. Die Lage sieht damit laut EU-Kommission so aus:

Zum gegenwärtigen Zeitpunkt haben sechs Mitgliedstaaten, Luxemburg eingeschlossen, die Richtlinie noch nicht umgesetzt. Ende 2009 und im Februar 2010 entschied der Europäische Gerichtshof, dass Irland und Griechenland einerseits und Schweden andererseits gegen das EU-Recht verstoßen haben. (…) In Rumänien wurde das einzelstaatliche Gesetz zur Umsetzung der Richtlinie vom Verfassungsgericht für verfassungswidrig erklärt. In Deutschland wurde ein ähnliches Urteil verkündet; gegen Ungarn ist ebenfalls ein Verfahren anhängig.

Nicht so schlecht, sollte man meinen. Jetzt kommt es darauf an, dass die Evaluierung der gesamten EU-Richtlinie, die im Herbst ansteht, objektiv verläuft und dort nicht nur die Sicherheitsbehörden Lobbyarbeit machen. Es gibt zwar immer wieder Einzelfälle, wo die Speicherung bei der Aufklärung von Straftaten geholfen hat, aber statistisch fällt das überhaupt nicht ins Gewicht.

Politischer Druck für mehr Datenschutz in der EU ist natürlich ebenfalls wichtig. Die Abschaffung der Vorratsdatenspeicherung ist daher eine der zentralen Forderungen der “Freiheit statt Angst”-Aktionen in ganz Europa am 11. September.

Am 26. Juli jährte sich zum zehnten Mal der Jahrestag des “Safe Harbor”-Abkommens, was den Datenaustausch zwischen EU und USA regelt immer mehr in der Kritik steht, weil Unternehmen wie Facebook oder Google in den USA viel mehr mi den Daten von EU-Bürgern anstellen dürfen, als Unternehmen mit Sitz in der EU. Das Unabhängige Landesdatenschutzzentrum Schleswig-Holstein kritisiert zum zehnten Geburtstag daher das Abkommen und fordert die sofortige Kündigung: 10 Jahre Safe Harbor – viele Gründe zum Handeln, kein Grund zum Feiern.

Der Kommentar des ULD-Leiters Thilo Weichert zum 10. Geburtstag: „Aus Datenschutzsicht könnte es nur eine Konsequenz aus den bisherigen Erfahrungen geben – Safe Harbor sofort zu kündigen. Wegen der engen wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen traut sich hierzu in der EU aber scheinbar niemand. Das Mindeste wäre, von den USA kurzfristig zumindest den formellen Nachweis für die Durchsetzung der Safe-Habor-Grundsätze zu fordern. Umgehend muss mit den USA in Verhandlungen eingetreten werden, um die Grundsätze zu überarbeiten und effektiv zu machen. Allein im Internet tummeln sich Hunderte von US-Firmen, unter ihnen Google und Facebook, die für sich – nicht überprüfbar für die Betroffenen und die europäischen Datenschutzbehörden – Safe Harbor reklamieren, und die sich so für befugt erklären, die Daten von Millionen von EU-Bürgerinnen und -Bürgern zu verarbeiten und damit viel Geld zu verdienen.“

Dem schließen wir uns an: Kündigen und neu verhandeln, um unsere Datenschutzrechte besser zu sichern.

Wir hatten heute Peter Sunde von Flattr zu Besuch im Büro und haben einen Netzpolitik-Podcast aufgezeichnet. Im Vorfeld hatten wir über Twitter gefragt, welche Fragen wir noch stellen sollten. Dabei sind eine Menge Fragen eingegangen, die wir im Interview auch genutzt haben. In dem Gespräch geht es nur um Flattr, was die Idee ist, wie die Firma entstand und wie Flattr heute genutzt wird. Die Idee von Flattr entstand schon vor einigen Jahren. Peter Sunde bastelte bereits um 2005 ein System, was im vergangenen Jahr als Basis von flattr.com genutzt wurde, aber letztendlich wurde das System in den vergangenen Monaten vollkommen neu programmiert.

Im Moment gibt es rund 25.000 Nutzer in der Closed-beta. Eine offene Beta-Version war ursprünglich für Juni geplant, aber Peter sieht jetzt realistisch eher “Ende des Sommers” an. Die meisten Nutzer kommen aus Deutschland. Warum das so ist, kann man im Moment nur spekulieren, was wir dann auch tun. Sicherlich spielt es eine Rolle, dass viele bekannte Blogs früh eingestiegen sind und ersten Zeitungen wie freitag.de und taz.de selbstständig ohne Rückfrage bei Flattr den Dienst einsetzen.

In dem Gespräch unterhalten wir uns auch darüber, welche Daten Flattr erhebt und speichert (Nicht viele), wie die oft vorgebrachten Datenschutz-Bedenken bei der Weiterentwicklung berücksichtigt werden und was mit unseren Daten passiert, wenn Flattr mal weiterverkauft wird. Und welche Payment-Systeme noch geplant sind. Banküberweisungen sind zumindest eingeplant. Den Grund für 10% Transaktionskosten bei einer Flattr-Nutzung erklärt Peter auch: Das sei vor allem psychologischen Gründen geschuldet. Von 10% könnte man einfacher runtergehen als mit wenig zu starten und die Kosten später erhöhen zu müssen. Eine Herabsetzung sei geplant, ein konkretes Datum wollte Peter aber leider nicht nennen.

Interessante News: Die Hälfte der Ausgaben bei Flattr wurden bisher in Rechtsanwälte gesteckt, um die unterschiedlichen Rechtssysteme berücksichtigen. Im Moment beschäftigt Flattr sechs Vollzeit-Kräfte in Malmö (Schweden), dort würde man auch sofort weitere zehn PHP-Programmierer einstellen.

Als das Europaparlament diesen Monat das SWIFT-Abkommen beschlossen hat, verkauften dies Sozialdemokraten und Liberale als großen Erfolg für unsere Bürgerrechte und Datenschutz. Unser Bundesdatenschutzbeauftragter Peter Schaar sieht dies nicht so und hat heute wieder eine Pressemitteilung veröffentlicht, weil übermorgen das Abkommen in Kraft tritt:

“Auch das nun geschlossene Abkommen entspricht nicht dem durch die EU-Grundrechtecharta und die EG-Datenschutzrichtlinie vorgegebenen Datenschutzniveau. Unverzichtbare und bewährte Standards werden unterlaufen.” [...] Für pikant halte ich es, dass ausgerechnet Europol darüber wachen soll, dass nicht zu viele Daten in die USA übermittelt werden, also eine Behörde, die von den US-Diensten mit den aus dem Datenbestand gewonnenen Erkenntnissen versorgt werden soll. Zwar sieht das Abkommen eine Kontrolle der Verarbeitung in den USA durch unabhängige Prüfer vor, von denen einer durch die Europäische Kommission benannt werden soll. Diese Prüfer haben jedoch nur eng begrenzte Kontrollbefugnisse. Bei Verweigerung der Auskunftserteilung erfahren weder der Betroffene noch sein nationaler Datenschutzbeauftragter im europäischen Heimatland, ob und gegenbenenfalls weshalb jemand in dem US-System gespeichert ist.

Gestern Donnerstag hat der Dritte Strafsenat des Oberlandesgerichts Karlsruhe – eine zweite Instanz – Jörg Kachelmann aus der Untersuchungshaft entlassen. Am 1. Juli hatte das Landgericht Mannheim – die erste Instanz – den Auftrag auf Aufhebung des Haftbefehls noch abgelehnt, unterstützt von der Staatsanwaltschaft. Obwohl ich mit Jörg Kachelmann nicht befreundet bin, ja in den frühen 90er Jahren sogar eine bösartige Klage des im Streit vom Schweizer Fernsehen geschiedenen «Wetterfroschs» überstehen musste, freue ich mich über den zweitinstanzlichen Entscheid auf Haftentlassung.

Auch in der Schweiz gibt es gelegentlich überlange Untersuchungshaft, vor allem im Wirtschaftskriminalitätsbereich. Aber in der Regel sind hierzulande drei Bedingungen für Haft zu erfüllen: Dringender Tatverdacht und ernsthafte Befürchtung (a) einer Fluchtgefahr, (b) einer Verfälschung von Beweismitteln und (c) weiterer Vergehen – so die neue Eidgenössische Strafprozessordnung. Im deutschen Strafprozessrecht reicht offenbar der dringende Tatverdacht – und mitgespielt hat gewiss der Verdacht, die Schweiz würde ihren Bürger Kachelmann nach seiner Heimkehr nicht ausliefern. Das sagte jedenfalls der Sprecher der Staatsanwaltschaft Mannheim. Jetzt hat das offenbar keine Rolle mehr gespielt.

Jedem Beobachter des «Verfahrens gegen Kachelmann» waren schon lange Fragezeichen aufgestiegen. Im Juni hatten «Der Spiegel» und «Die Zeit» umfangreiche Dossiers veröffentlicht. Sie weckten massive Zweifel am Tatverdacht der Vergewaltigung einer Freundin Kachelmanns. Im Auftrag der Staatsanwaltschaft Mannheim hatte die Bremer Psychologieprofessorin Luise Greuel gefolgert, dass die Angaben der Opferzeugin nicht einmal den qualitativen Anforderungen einer tragfähigen Aussage genügen würden. Höchstwahrscheinlich habe die Anzeigestellerin die behaupteten Vergewaltigungshandlungen nicht erlebt.

Auch ein zweites Gutachten – diesmal für die Verteidigung – des angesehenen Münsteraner Gerichtsmedizinprofessors Bernd Brinkmann verstärkte das Misstrauen. Nach Brinkmanns Einschätzung hat sich das Opfer selber verletzt. «Die Beweise zerrinnen den Staatsanwälten geradezu unter den Händen», schloss «Die Zeit». Aber «der Schaden, den Kachelmanns Ansehen erlitten hat, ist total».

Das führt uns auf eine zweite Ebene. Was haben die Medien da veranstaltet? Schon eine Woche nach Kachelmanns Verhaftung am 20. März auf dem Frankfurt Airport entrüstete sich die Sonntagsausgabe der «Frankfurter Allgemeinen» in einem «Protokoll eines beispiellosen Journalismus des Verdachts»:

«Nichts war über das Privatleben des populären Jörg Kachelmann bekannt. Bis er am Montag verhaftet wurde, weil er seine Lebensgefährtin vergewaltigt haben soll. Seit diesem Moment gilt den Medien jedes Barthaar als Indiz eines möglichen Verbrechens und das Verbergen alles Privaten als Beweis».

Am weitesten ging der «Blick am Abend». Er hatte sogar einen erotischen E-Mail-Verkehr «enthüllt» (gekauft?), den «der Schleimer» Kachelmann mit einem Schlagersternchen ausgetauscht haben soll. Kachelmanns Anwalt verlangte eine Abstandserklärung, laut der das Haus Ringier und andere Verlage offenbar auf Wiederholung verzichten wollten. Genützt hat's nichts. Es wurde laufend Neues nachgeschoben. Wenn immer die grauslige «Bunte» einen neuen Knochen vorlegte, zitierten auch renommierte Portale wie «tagesanzeiger.ch» das Behauptete.

Der Schweizer Journalistenkodex schreibt in Richtlinie 7.2. treuherzig:

«Journalisten wägen die beteiligten Interessen (der Öffentlichkeit und der Privatsphäre) sorgfältig ab. Namensnennung ist zulässig, sofern eine Person in der Öffentlichkeit allgemein bekannt ist und der Medienbericht damit im Zusammenhang steht.»

Der Jurist Peter Studer war Chefredaktor des «Tages-Anzeigers» und des Schweizer Fernsehens, bevor er von 2001 bis 2007 den Schweizer Presserat präsidierte. Als Chefredaktor hatte er Jörg Kachelmann Anfang der 90er Jahre die Wettermoderation am Schweizer Fernsehen übertragen.

When I was a small child, I’d curl up on my parents’ bed after the sunshine had warmed their dark brown comforter. It was an oasis of peace and safety that I struggled to find in later years. I’d made the mistake of thinking that being an adult meant no longer delighting in “silly” things like a sun-warmed blanket. I was entirely wrong.

Each day includes moments that can be deeply enjoyed or carelessly tossed aside. As I learned to identify and enjoy those moments amid the hubbub of regular life, I found more smiles and sunshine than I’d ever thought possible. Try one of the following for best results!

1. Take 15 – Shut your phone off, close the blinds, rest your eyes and listen to some music. If you like action more than mediation, so be it! Use your 15 minutes in a way that will leave you feeling most revitalized. That’s where the sunshine comes from.
2. Go for a stroll – The kind of meandering walk that is more about discovering the path than reaching a destination. If I don’t have a camera or pad handy, I like to make a mental list of a few things I discover on every stroll I take. A design element I particularly appreciate, a rabbit hopping down an alley, or a woman singing on her porch; all contribute my perspective and appreciation of the world around me.
3. Do something nice for a complete stranger – Buy a coffee, pay a toll, give a smile and a “thank you” when none is required. Giving when neither is required will open you up to a world of kindness. It also feels very, very good.
4. Laugh from your stomach – You know the kind of laugh that shakes your entire body and ends in a half-moan because you’re not sure if you can stop laughing? That kind of laugh. A moment spent in full enjoyment of humor is a great way to release tension and refuel your smile.
5. Try something not included in your normal diet - Most of us eat from a very short list of foods. Eating something entirely different will do more than expand your palate. It will help keep your sense of adventure alive!

Sometimes I still like to enjoy a bright patch of sun-soaked carpet just like I did that blanket as child. But lets not talk too loudly about that. =)

English is a second language for a number of major league baseball players. So naturally, interpreters have come to play an important role in helping players with limited English skills carry out their athletic duties.

A recent article published by MLB.com emphasizes the diversity of tasks performed by baseball translators. Of course, they need to understand the national pastime in order to help their clients during practice and games. But their work isn’t over after the 9^th inning – media relations are also a major part of the job.

One of the high pressure tasks these interpreters perform is dealing with post-game media coverage. If an LEP (Limited English Proficiency) client for has a big game, the interpreter will be the player’s voice at press conferences with scores of reporters. It’s no time to translate on the fly – the interpreter needs to have followed the game closely and understand all of the key plays in order to render his client’s comments in a

“Suzuki [interpreter for Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro] serves as the PR contact for the sizable Japanese media contingent that follows the club,” writes Sunil Joshi. “He's also been known to throw batting practice.”

A baseball interpreter may be hired primarily for language and personal skills, but the profession can lead to a greater interest in the game – and other career possibilities. Suzuki, for example, is hoping to wind up in the front office.

El rol del iPad como la tierra prometida para las publicaciones todavía tiene varias piedras en el camino que resolver. Al margen del debate entre aplicaciones nativas frente a las versiones web, tenemos el modelo de cobro al usuario: Apple rechaza aplicaciones con suscripción independiente a la revista en iPad. Empresas como Times Inc. quieren un modelo clásico de suscripción, en la que la empresa de medio tiene la relación y cobra directamente al usuario, mientras que parece que Apple no va a aceptar nada que no suponga que cada pago se haga a través de iTunes.

Las aplicaciones en la App Store se están percibiendo como un entorno mejor frente a tener una versión: cultura de pago, control de qué se puede hacer y quién puede publicar... pero la parte del "control" que tanto han aplaudido las empresas de medios también tiene este "otro lado".

El sector de las preguntas y respuestas en internet está "calentito" y eso que hace años que tenemos un dominador claro como es Yahoo Respuestas. El último en entrar es Facebook, que acaba de anunciar el despliegue de "Preguntas Facebook", movimiento que se percibe como una respuesta a Quora, que sustituye a anteriores startups (Twitter, FourSquare, Friendfeed) como obsesión a imitar por parte de Facebook.

¿El resultado? Está por ver que la implantación dentro del servicio de redes sociales vaya a ofrecer una mejor experiencia / mejores respuestas que sitios especializados y, sobre todo, la percepción de Facebook Preguntas por parte de los usuarios ya que supone otro paso más a compartir en abierto. Facebook sigue con su proceso de separación de su experiencia original centrada en "compartir con mis amigos en privado".

Die Nachricht des Terrorismusexperten, der vor C++ warnt, hat ja schon mächtig die Runde gedreht.

Roland Jacquard, Leiter des französischen Instituts „Observatoire international du terrorisme“ erzählte in der Sendung Arret sur Images vom Handbuch “Secrets Moudjahidine 2″, das angeblich von der Al’Qaida-Führungsspitze genutzt wird. In Wahrheit handelt es sich einfach nur um eine Anleitung für C++ auf Arabisch, wie man auf dieser Seite ganz einfach anhand der Inhaltsangabe (übersetzt mit Google Translate) sehen kann.

Nachdem die Nachricht kräftig die französisch-deutsche Blogosphäre amüsierte, wurde der Terrorismusexperte von der Sendung nochmals befragt. Und der Experte setzt noch einen drauf. Er erklärt, dass

das Deckblatt des Dokuments, das er in der Sendung zeigte, die erste Seite eines Handbuchs ist, das der Al-Qaida-Führung gegeben wurde, um Dokumente im Netz zu verschlüsseln.

Auf die Frage, wie denn sein Institut an das Dokument gekommen sei, bleibt er vage und antwortet, dass er

an einer Studie zum Thema „Al-Qaida im Internet“ arbeitet (…) und viele Dokumente zu Gesicht bekommt, die alle nach den Anschlägen in London gesichert werden konnten.

Unsere Vermutung ist, dass Jacquard das Papier mit einem Verschlüsselungsprogramm verwechselt, welches 2007 erschien und tatsächlich den Titel „Mujahideen Secrets” trug. Vielleicht gibt’s ja jetzt eine zweite Auflage…

Der Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband hat sich den DE-Mail-Gesetzentwurf angeschaut und diesen aus Sicht der Verbraucherrechte kommentiert. Das Fazit sieht nicht gut für De-Mail aus, die Nachteile für die Verbraucher “überwiegen deutlich”.

Zusammenfassung der Forderungen / Empfehlungen

* Die Vorschriften im De-Mail-Gesetz müssen technikneutral formuliert sein.
* Eine Sicherheit, ein Datenschutz und eine Vertrauenswürdigkeit einer rechtverbindlichen elektronischen Kommunikation mittels De-Mail kann nur durch eine gesetzlich verbindliche Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung erreicht werden.
* Ohne weitere Konkretisierung der wesentlichen gesetzlichen Anforderungen ist der Verzicht auf eine Verordnungsermächtigung problematisch.
* Der De-Mail Nutzer muss ein Recht auf die Vergaben einer (oder mehrerer) pseudonymer Adressen haben. Die Vergabe einer pseudonymen De-Mail Adresse muss unabhängig von der Vergabe einer De-Mail-Adresse mit Angabe des Klarnamens möglich sein.
* Die Nutzung eines De-Mail-Dienstes darf nicht von einer Veröffentlichung der Nutzerinformationen im Verzeichnisdienst abhängig gemacht werden. Dieses Kopplungsverbot muss uneingeschränkt gelten.
* Die Verbraucher/ Bürgen müssen vom Diensteanbieter schon zum Zeitpunkt der Beantragung und nicht erst, wie im Entwurf vorgesehen, “vor der ersten Nutzung des De-Mail-Dienstes” über die Rechtsfolgen und Kosten der Nutzung eines De-Mail-Dienstes umfassend informiert werden. Die Bestätigung der Kenntnisnahme der Informationen durch den Nutzer muss stets schriftlich erfolgen.
* Mail-Adressen akkreditierter Diensteanbieter müssen sich eindeutig von denen nicht-akkreditierten Dienstanbieter unterscheiden lassen. Hierzu ist eine für alle De-Mail-Diensteanbieter verbindliche einheitliche Kennzeichnung der De-Mail-Adressen erforderlich.
* Die spezifischen datenschutzrechtlichen Vorschriften im Gesetz dürfen sich nicht nur auf die reinen Transport der Nachrichten beschränken. Sie müssen sich auf den gesamten Verfahrensprozess beim Dienstanbieter erstrecken.
* Die Nutzung eines De-Mail-Dienstes darf nicht von dem Einverständnis des Nutzers in die Weitergabe seiner persönlichen Daten an Dritte etwa zu Werbezwecken abhängig gemacht werden (Kopplungsverbot).
* Angesichts bestehender Identitätsbestätigungsdienste und vergleichbarer Möglichkeiten zur zuverlässigen Identitätsbestätigung erscheint ein weiteres (kostenträchtiges) System überflüssig. Der Identitätsbestätigungsdienst sollte im Gesetz gestrichen werden.
* Unternehmen, die nachweislich illegale Geschäfte mit Verbrauchern im Internet betreiben, muss der gesetzliche Auskunftsanspruch wirksam verwehrt werden. Unabhängig davon muss es ein allgemeines Anhörungsrecht des Betroffenen vor einem etwaigen Offenlegen eines Pseudonyms geben.
* Staatlich akkreditierten Diensteanbieter sollten eine einheitliche und verbindlich zu verwendende Kennzeichnung erhalten. Jegliche anlehnende Werbung und Kommunikation nicht akkreditierter Diensteanbieter wäre zu untersagen.

Fazit
Unter Hinweis auf das Signaturgesetz, nach Abwägung der verfahrensbedingten und wirtschaftlichen Vor- und Nachteile des Gesetzesvorhabens für die Verbraucher / Bürger und nach der Prüfung der einzelnen Regelungen im Referentenentwurf kommt der Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband zu dem Schluss, dass die damit für den Verbraucher/ Bürger verbundenen Folgenwirkungen und Nachteile etwaige Vorteile deutlich überwiegen. Der Gesetzentwurf in der derzeitigen Fassung wird daher abgelehnt.

In the medical field, document translation is highly complex. As with any type of translation, translators must be excellent writers in their native language(s), and possess a near-perfect understanding of the linguistic and cultural nuances of the languages they translate from.

In addition, medical translators need to be experts in medical terminology, know how to use specialized dictionaries, and possess a working knowledge of the field of medicine in general.

Medical facilities are increasingly staffed with at least a few interpreters, but these employees are specialized in oral translation and may not possess the necessary skills to translate official written texts.

A comprehensive document published by the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) last year addresses many issues pertinent to language services in the medical field, including the question of whether medical interpreters can also translate. The conclusion is clear: interpreters should not be used to translate written documents unless they are also qualified translators with the requisite training, experience and writing skills.

As the IMIA points out, however, interpreters are often asked to “sight translate:” to give an impromptu oral translation of a basic medical document that is not intended for publication. This is a very useful skill for interpreters to have, but it requires practice and not all interpreters are capable sight translators.

Clearly, the language used when medical staff members are speaking to patients is quite different from the formal, scientific language of medical papers and articles. Thus, the skills sets of language service professionals need to be assessed and taken into account when assigning language tasks in medical settings.

Nachdem die Öffentlich-Rechtlichen Anstalten massiv ihre Online-Angebote depublizieren mussten, sind jetzt viele Archive zumindest der Öffentlichkeit entzogen. Praktischerweise findet sich bei der Piratebay ein 132 MB großes Torrent-File mit dem Archiv von Tagesschau.de im XML-Format aus den vergangenen elf Jahren von 1999 – 2010. Das ist leider nicht gemeinfrei oder unter einer freien Lizenz, aber zu privaten Zwecken und im Sinne von Wissenschaft und Bildung kann man sich das sicher gerne kopieren.

Bei Tagesschau.de findet man jetzt unter jedem Video verschiedene Downloadmöglichkeiten, zu denen auch der freie Video-Codec OGG-Theora gehört. OGG-Theora-Videos werden in einer mittleren Größe mit einer Auflösung von 512x288px angeboten. Mehr Auswahl gibt es bei h264-Videos: Hier reicht die Auswahl von klein über Mobil, Mittel bis zu großer Auflösung.

Am 11. September findet in Berlin wieder die jährliche Großdemonstration “Freiheit statt Angst” gegen die ausuferende Überwachung und für digitale Bürgerrechte statt. Dazu gibt es ein immer größer werdendes Demo-Bündnis, dem man sich noch anschließen kann. Da in diesem Jahr (bisher) die großen Netzpolitischen Debatten wie in den Vorjahren fehlen (2007/2008 war es die Vorratsdatenspeicherung und 2009 die Zensursula-Diskussion), wird die mediale Mobilisierung wahrscheinlich etwas schwieriger. Dafür kann dabei aber jeder mitmachen!

Beim Foebud kann man verschiedene Artikel für die Offline-Mobilisierung kostenfrei bestellen, dazu gehören z.B. Poster und Flyer. Diese kann man aufhängen und weiterverteilen.

Was noch einfacher geht: Online werben! Wer ein eigenes Blog oder eine Webseite hat, kann dort Banner draufsetzen, die für die Demonstration werben. Es gibt schon einige Banner als Vorlage, aber auch hier werden noch tolle Motive und vor allem schicke Designs gesucht. Wer designen kann und sich mit diesen Fähigkeiten einbringen möchte: Nur zu!

Man kann auch einfach nur darüber bloggen oder twittern. Je mehr Menschen mitmachen, umso mehr werden auf die Demonstration und den Termin aufmerksam gemacht.

Eine weitere Möglichkeit ist das sogenannte “Pagepeel”, was man auch hier im Blog rechts oben findet. Das ist ein Widget und dieses kann man einfach in das Design des eigenen Blogs einbauen, indem man ein Stück Code kopiert. Die genaue Anleitung findet sich im Wiki des Ak-Vorratsdatenspeicherung. Das Banner geht automatisch auf, wenn man mit der Maus in die rechte obere Ecke geht, wo sich die kleine Kamera befindet.

Amazon tiene la información del usuario más interesante que se puede tener: la que comunica con su dinero. Ahí es donde están realmente marcadas sus preferencias y es lo que Amazon siempre ha sabido utilizar para articular un sistema de recomendaciones basada en una "red social implícita" de otros clientes con gustos afines. Lo que añade ahora al integrarse con Facebook es información complementaria sobre sus clientes: preferencias declaradas ("Me gusta tal grupo de música"), pero también y sobre todo su grafo social explícito, la gente que interesa a su cliente no por ser afín sino por ser amiga o conocida suya. A partir de ahí, articulan una ampliación del sistema de recomendaciones, además de un ingenioso mecanismo de recordatorio de cumpleaños de contactos con regalos susceptibles de ser enviados a los mismos (de nuevo, basado en sus preferencias).

Amazon está comprando más conocimiento de sus clientes y con ello aspita a aumentar el ticket de compra. Sin embargo es en Facebook donde creo que está la incógnita de su estrategia con Open Graph su plataforma para la conquista de la web. En principio la adopción por parte de Amazon refuerza su rol como "sistema de login social para la web", pero la pregunta debería empezar a ser cómo y cuándo esperan rentabilizar esto. De hecho, parte del potencial de ingresos a medio / largo plazo de los servicios de redes sociales se presuponía que iba a estar en "el comercio electrónico social", articulando compras y recomendaciones dentro de ellas. Con Facebook cada vez más volcado en su integración en el resto de la web, este escenario empieza a desdibujarse para dar lugar a una estrategia no sólo de publicidad a lo AdSense en sitios de terceros sino también de mejora de los sistemas de CPA de sitios como Amazon.

Think your small business can’t grow in this economy? You’re wrong. Improving your mindset and minimizing your risk are possible in all economies.

If you pay attention to the media and get sucked into an “economic panic,” you might think that trying to grow a business in today’s economy is a crazy notion. But many of the companies you know and trust were started in economic conditions much like the ones we’re experiencing today. Disney, Johnson & Johnson and Microsoft were all started during recessions. The economic conditions in which they were started didn’t doom them to failure.

But let’s face it: Small business is multi-faceted and as such, requires a multi-faceted approach. What you’re thinking and how you’re thinking have as much of an impact on the level of your success as anything else, especially for the small business owner.

That’s why this week I’m focusing on getting your head in the right place for small business success. Next week, I’ll move on to logistics and strategies for minimizing risk and growing your business.

Let’s start off with a conversation about where most small business owners start getting into trouble. It all starts at home, right in the brain, especially in an economy like this.

Lack-Based Thinking

Lack-based thinking is when you think things like: “I can’t afford….” “I don’t know how I’m going to pay for….” It’s all about fear, uncertainty and self-doubt.

Lack-based thinking constantly hammers away at the mindset you need to succeed. You won’t have the drive to succeed or put your dollars in the right places if you have “I can’t afford it” floating around in your head. Focus on making a shift so you can start putting your mind and your money where they can bring you back the most return.

Strategies to Make the Shift

Develop and Use Affirmations:

The first thing that you can do to start making the shift out of lack-based thinking is to use affirmations. This is just good psychology: in essence, you’re re-training your brain. To get started, make a list of affirmations or declarations and say them aloud every day, at least three times a day, for 30 days. If you miss a day, start over at Day 1. It’s absolutely imperative that you do this continuously, without a break, for 30 days. Research shows that’s how long it takes your brain to retrain itself, so if you do something for two weeks, miss a day, and then start up again, even if you do it for another two weeks, your brain won’t be retrained. It has to be 30 consecutive days, without missing a day.

The best way to get into this habit is to decide on Day 1 that you are fully, 100 percent committed to taking this action. Don’t accept any excuses from yourself.

Focus on the Larger Purpose:

Maybe you started a business so you could travel the world or just so you could relax, knowing you have money invested for a long and enjoyable retirement. Create tangible reminders of the reason you started down this path: a vision board, a picture, or a bold statement posted in your workspace. Reaffirm what you’re working toward and you’ll find a continuously renewed will to keep going.

Track Your Successes:

Stay focused on the positive by keeping track of your successes, even the small ones. Make a list and review them every morning and evening. This focuses your attention on what you’re doing right and keeps you concentrated on moving in a positive direction.

Once you get your brain engaged for success, you’ll be in a much better position to take action and achieve your goals and dreams.

And as my Sunday column [«Making the online customer king at The Post»] noted, The Post consciously uses this type of content to lure traffic - in part so that it can show potential advertisers that they would be reaching the largest possible audience. In The Post's case, the intense pressure to boost online traffic and engagement has revealed, as my Sunday column noted, a newsroom divide between Web and print-oriented staffers. Some with an online focus believe that print veterans are too wedded to traditional journalistic standards and are too slow to embrace the more freewheeling Web. But print-oriented staffers fear that using gimmicks to attract online audience will cheapen The Post’s brand, thus damaging its journalistic reputation.»

Más movimiento en el área de los juegos sociales en internet. Tras la inversión de Google en Zynga, tenemos la compra de Playdom por parte de Disney por 563 millones de euros más 200 en función de resultados (Paid Content).

Playdom tiene todo un portafolio de juegos desplegados en Facebook y MySpace, además de para móvil (sobre todo iPhone), aunque no es el líder de la categoría (que es Zynga) y puede compararse en tamaño a Playfish, adquirido por EA el año pasado (Expansión).

Los juegos sociales en internet están en su momento álgido, no sólo son el sector que mejor está haciendo negocio sobre los servicios de redes sociales (con tensión entre Zynga y Facebook incluida) sino que podría ser el protagonista del próximo intento "social" de Google tal como señala el WSJ. Sus socios en esta aventura "lúdico-social" serían precisamente Zynga, Playfish.... y Playdom.

Na, immer noch bei Facebook die Datenschutz-Einstellung so eingestellt, so dass man gesucht werden kann? Dann hat man gute Chancen, zumindest mit Vor- und Nachnamen sowie der Profil-URL und ggf. weiteren preisgegebenen Daten in einem 2,8 GB großen Torrent-File aufzutauchen. Da hat jemand einen Crawler gebastelt, der diese Daten gesammelt haben will. Und im nächsten Schritt sollen Friends-of-a-Friend-Informationen gesammelt werden, damit man bessere Netzwerk-Analysen anstellen kann. Dazu wird aber noch Bandbreite gesucht.

Summer is travel time, and trips to far-away locales are increasingly frequent. For many Americans, “going abroad” used to mean a trip to Mexico or Europe. Now, trips to China, Thailand or Egypt are becoming part of the travel experience for young and old alike.

A number of tools are on the market to help travellers communicate abroad, including high-tech gizmos such as the “talking translators” that I blogged about a few weeks back. But when dealing with very basic communication tasks when there is a very high language barrier, a simple picture book such as point it or The Universal Phrase Book may prove to be extremely useful.

So how ridiculous would you look pointing to an image of a bandage or a toilet? Probably not much more so than you would sound trying to ask for one in the Mandarin or Arabic you tried to learn from a digital application on the plane over.

“As someone who has travelled to more than 40 countries, both in Europe and the non-Western world, I have found point it to be very useful and easy to carry,” explains the publisher’s description of this popular picture book. “It has taken the suspense out of ordering dinner in remote areas of Burma. Instead of guessing what I'm ordering or trying to act like, say, a chicken, I can just point to a photograph of one.”

So if you’re travelling to a destination with a difficult language and don’t feel like pantomiming poultry, a picture book can be a low-cost and efficient communication tool.

Sobre el "fin de los tiempos de Microsoft" llevamos tiempo leyendo - y lo que nos queda - pero por mucho que teoricemos sobre la era post PC y de como el negocio se traslada de la informática personal al mundo móvil, los números de Microsoft son todo un baño de realidad. Ingresos anuales récord (BI), impulsados por las grandes ventas que han tenido Windows 7 y Office 2010 que ayudan a dibujar el escenario que tanto gusta enseñar a Ballmer: ingresos superiores a todas las compañías que copan los elogios de los analistas tecnológicos.

La otra cara de la moneda, y la razón por la cual existen "enterradores de Microsoft", es entrar en el detalle de las cifras y seguir observando como queman dinero año tras año en la división online (BI). Tenemos voces incluso como la de su ex-empleado Don Dodge que acaban recomendando a Microsoft el asumir que es una compañía que no va a crecer más y, prácticamente, a rendirse en internet donde no lo ha hecho bien en los últimos años a pesar de gastar tanto dinero. Sobre el futuro de Microsoft, me da la impresión, nos quedan años de dimes y diretes.

Das war mal eine notwendige Entscheidung: Verdachtsunabhängige Videoüberwachung von Demos in Berlin rechtswidrig.

Das Verwaltungsgericht Berlin hat die verdachtsunabhängige Videoüberwachung friedlicher Demonstrationen durch die Polizei wegen nicht gerechtfertigter Eingriffe in die Grundrechte der Betroffenen untersagt. Die langjährige Praxis der Ordnungshüter in der Hauptstadt, Protestkundgebungen angeblich zu Zwecken der Einsatzlenkung und zur Gewährleistung der Verkehrssicherheit zu filmen, ist laut einem jetzt bekannt gewordenen Urteil (Az.: VG 1K 905.09) rechtswidrig. Die Berliner Polizei habe damit tief in den Schutzbereich der “vorrangigen Versammlungsfreiheit” und in den der informationellen Selbstbestimmung eingegriffen, heißt es in dem heise online vorliegenden Beschluss. Dafür hätte es einer gesetzlichen Grundlage bedurft, die aber nicht vorhanden sei.

Der britische Guardian zeigt bei den Afghanistan – war logs einmal mehr, was moderner Online-Journalismus zu leisten vermag. Dabei spielt man die eigene Stärke und Kompetenz im Datenjournalismus aus und stellt die Rohdaten auch als Open-data online. Im eigenen Data-Blog erklärt Simon Rogers ausführlich , was man wie gemacht hat: Wikileaks’ Afghanistan war logs: how our datajournalism operation worked.

Vor rund einem Monat bin ich auf der Hauptversammlung der deutschen UNESCO-Kommission als persönliches Mitglied in eben diese gewählt worden. Die deutsche UNESCO-Kommission berät u.a. die Bundesregierung, die Wissenschafts- und Kultusministerien der Länder und andere zuständige Stellen in allen UNESCO-Angelegenheiten wie dem Zugang zu Wissen und Kultur. Ich werde mich dort vor allem in der Arbeitsgruppe “Kommunikation” engagieren, wo es explizit um „Zugang zu Information und Wissen für alle, Einsatz von Informationstechnologie als Entwicklungsfaktor und Förderung der Pressefreiheit – das sind die Ziele des UNESCO-Kommunikations- und Informationsprogramms“ geht. Bei iRights werden die Aufgaben der UNESCO-Kommission noch etwas staatstragender vorgestellt, weil mit mir Till Kreutzer als eines von 22 persönlichen Mitgliedern reingewählt wurde. Wahrscheinlich senken wir beide jetzt erheblich den Altersdurchschnitt.

Schön blöd: Im französischen Sender France5 hat der “Terrorismusexperte” Roland Jacquard von der Organisation “Observatoire international du terrorisme” vor Al-Quaida – Handbüchern im Netz gewarnt. Dabei war er so kundig von der Materie, dass er ein C++ – Programmierbuch in arabischer Sprache den Zuschauern präsentierte. Die ganze Story gibt es auf französisch hier.

Amazon ha facturado más 1000 millones de dólares en ventas ejecutadas desde dispositivo móvil en el último año, tal como indican en la nota de prensa de sus resultados del segundo trimestre. Estas ventas incluyen las de libros realizadas desde el lector Kindle o desde la aplicación de lectura que tienen para otros sistemas. Todo un indicador de empieza a tener sentido estar en el dispositivo que acompaña al cliente todo el día (ya sea versión web o aplicación) para intentar capturar compras menos "reflexivas" de las que se producen delante del ordenador y que la fórmula "comprar desde el dispositivo donde se va a consumir" queda refrendada tal como también muestran las distintas "App Store".

A couple of months ago I wrote an article on 10 reasons to quit TV on my blog. I was half expecting resistant replies, but was surprised to read many readers expressing the same sentiments. Some of them have removed TV from their lives since years ago, while some are on the way towards cutting TV out. Many of them expressed improved quality of life after they stopped / reduced TV viewing.

You might be wondering: Why remove TV from our life? Truth is, I used to watch TV a fair bit when I was young. When I was a student, I made it a point to watch all prime time shows (The trailers had a way of making you feel you were missing out if you didn’t watch). If there was ever a blockbuster movie on air, I would catch it too. TV made life seem exciting.

Then slowly, I reduced my TV viewing. It was a natural progression, really, as I became busier and found priorities outside of TV. Today, I’ve not watched TV for about 4 years. I found my life satisfaction increased when I watched less TV. It has given more time for me to pursue my life goals. Compare 2 hours of TV watching to say, writing personal development articles for my blog or writing my 1st book, the latter activities are definitely a whole lot more meaningful. In retrospect, I felt the time I spent in front of the black box in the past was a waste of time.

If you are ready to remove TV from your life and spend time on things that matter more, here are 6 steps on how to do so:

1. Have replacement activities.

For any successful habit change to take place, you have to replace the old habit with something new. Here are some suggestions:

• Start a business you like. Since you have more free time now, why not start up a new business? Do it part-time, with no strings attached, and see where it spins off. It’s a great way to cultivate your skills and earn money doing something you like at the same time.
• Hang out with your friends. Are there any friends you have not met for a while? Maybe it’s time to catch-up with them. Go out and have fun. Hanging out indoors is good too – Just don’t end up watching TV!
• Exercise. Go to the gym and get a great workout. Jogging, swimming, tennis, squash, aerobics are all great too.
• Go out and meet new people. Are there any meet-up groups you can join? Any upcoming events you can attend? Meetup.com is a great place to start off.
• Take up a class. Any courses you’ve been meaning to take up? Any hobbies you want to pursue further? Take up a weekly class/mini-course. I took up side classes on

2. Remove your cable subscription.

Being subscribed to the cable TV makes you feel compelled to keep watching, so as to maximize the value of your subscription. If you’re serious about removing TV from your life, unsubscribe immediately. Forget about the line-up of shows on cable – not only do you get a big chunk of your life back, you also save money in the process.

3. Limit your TV viewing every day.

If cutting TV out immediately is a big stretch, start off by limiting your TV viewing. If you’re a heavy TV viewer, limit to 2-hours a day first. Then go down to 1.5 hours, then slowly 1-hour, then 30 minutes. Soon it’ll be easy to just stop watching altogether. In fact by then, you’d have experienced the positive effects of not watching TV that you are ready to stop watching it altogether.

4. Work on your goals.

Even if it’s just 30 minutes a day, you’ll be surprised at how much progress you’ll make in a short span. Back in 2007, I first started working on my personal goals at least 30 min/day, including my aspirations for my future. After a year, I was ready to quit my day job and pursue my passion. Today, I’m running my personal development business and doing what I love full-time. Start on your goals today, and very soon you’ll see results.

5. Don’t catch new shows.

After I decided to stop watching TV, I stopped catching new shows. I continued to watch past shows that were still running, such as Prison Break (via DVD), but otherwise I stopped catching new shows, be it Ugly Betty or Gossip Girl. With the ending of the “old” shows, it also ended my TV viewing.

6. Put away your TV.

One of my readers got rid of her TV 5 years ago. Since then, her family (comprising of her, her husband and her son) spend a lot more quality time together, playing board games and writing their journals together every week. If throwing away your TV is too drastic, store it away. That’s what happened for another reader. When she was young, her parents didn’t want her to grow up around the negative influence of TV. However, they couldn’t bear to throw the TV away. In the end, they kept the TV in a closet. Subsequently, she grew up TV-free, and had the time to pursue other hobbies and activities.

Wenn der Erscheinungstermin des Print-Spiegel von Samstag Abend im Netz auf Sonntag Abend verlegt wird, Sonntags in Berlin keine Ausgaben am Kiosk zu kaufen sind und bei Spiegel-Online kein Titelbild abgebildet ist, heißt das entweder, dass man in Hamburg eine Einstweilige Verfügung erhalten hat oder eine Exklusivstory vorbereitet. In diesem Fall ist es eigentlich die Exklusivstory von Wikileaks, die heute über 90.000 Berichte über den Afghanistan-Krieg auf wardiary.wikileaks.org veröffentlicht haben. Im Vorfeld hat Wikileaks das Material den drei großen Medien-Marken Spiegel, New York Times und Guardian zukommen lassen, die jeweils das Material verifiziert haben und heute Nacht parallel mit der Story online gegangen sind.

Für Wikileaks ist es ein großer Scoop und ich mag mich irren, aber es erscheint schon einzigartig, wenn gleich drei große Medien-Marken in drei verschiedenen Ländern gemeinsam eine Exklusivstory bearbeiten, die vielleicht ohne Wikileaks nicht möglich gewesen wäre.

Die Umsetzung der Story im Netz ist sehr verschieden. Der Spiegel konzentriert sich im Moment noch eher auf seine Print-Ausgabe und hat nur einen kurzen Überblick über verschiedene Aspekte in seiner Online-Ausgabe als Teaser veröffentlicht: Enthüllung brisanter Kriegsdokumente – Die Afghanistan-Protokolle. Der Guardian spielt seine Kompetenz im Datenjournalismus aus, visualisiert viele Ereignisse in Afghanistan auf Karten und veröffentlicht die Rohdaten als Opendata. Dazu gibt es natürlich noch die Story: Afghanistan war logs: Massive leak of secret files exposes truth of occupation. Und die New York Times hat online ein “Interactive-Feature” draus gemacht: The war logs – An archive of classified military documents offers an unvarnished view of the war in Afghanistan.

The Afghan War Diary an extraordinary secret compendium of over 91,000 reports covering the war in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2010. They include the number of persons internally stated to be killed, wounded, or detained during each action, together with the precise geographical location of each event, and the military units involved and major weapon systems used. The Afghan War Diary is the most significant archive about the reality of war to have ever been released during the course of a war. The deaths of tens of thousands is normally only a statistic but the archive reveals the locations and the key events behind each most of these deaths. Aunque son otras compañías las que suelen copar las publicaciones de tecnología, Samsung es probablemente quien más peso tiene hoy día para decantar la balanza en la competencia entre plataformas. Es el segundo fabricante mundial y el primero de los que no sólo apuestan por un sistema operativo propio como hacen Nokia, RIM o Apple. De hecho la noticia de que lanzaban Bada en Samsung Wave hacía que quienes cuentan con el apoyo del fabricante coreano (Android y el futuro Windows Phone Series 7) tengan que empezar a plantearse un futuro en el que sean una opción secundaria para Samsung.

No es el caso del terminal que hoy nos ocupa, tras haberlo podido probar, el Samsung Galaxy S se presenta como uno de los "tres Androids" más potentes del mercado en la modalidad "intento de iPhone Killer". Si en algo destaca Galaxy S es en una pantalla, tanto por calidad (Super AMOLED) como por tamaño (cuatro pulgadas), que lo diferencia del resto de competidores en su gama. Tal como mueve el sistema, entra dentro del "top 3" de móviles Android junto al HTC Desire y al Nexus One, en lo que podemos considerar los terminales más interesantes del momento a la espera de los lanzamientos de cara a la campaña de Navidad. Poco más respecto al Galaxy, un gran pedazo de hardware y una buena experiencia de Android (2.1 de momento, eso sí), que intentan reforzar preinstalando varias aplicaciones con vistas a aportar más valor al perfil de comprador de Samsung (que típicamente viene de gamas más bajas). También me reafirma en que para el iPhone 4 diferenciarse sólo en hardware no es suficiente, la carrera frente a un montón de distintos fabricantes tiende necesariamente a igualarse y el Galaxy S es un ejemplo de ello.

Meine FAZ-Kolumne zur Speicherung und Weiterverkauf von Standortdaten bei Smartphone-Herstellern am Beispiel von Apple ist bei der FAZ einmal hinter einer Paywall, dafür aber bei fazfinance frei zu lesen: Apple speichert die Daten unseres Lebens.

Was bleibt, ist abermals die Erkenntnis, dass die Verbraucher selbst entscheiden können müssen, ob sie ein nützliches Feature verwenden möchten und was die möglichen Folgen sind. Dazu braucht es Transparenz durch die Hersteller und den Willen, ihre Kunden frühzeitig und möglichst umfassend zu informieren – und diesen die Möglichkeit zu geben, die Weitergabe ihrer Daten an Dritte zu untersagen. Die Politik kann sich dabei ernsthaft einbringen. Bei der EU-Kommission wird derzeit die Datenschutzrichtlinie überarbeitet. Unter anderem steht dabei die Frage im Raum: Unter welchen Voraussetzungen dürfen Unternehmen außerhalb der EU Daten erheben, speichern und verarbeiten? Hier gilt es, die Souveränität des Einzelnen zu schützen.

Als Titel hatte ich übrigens “Wenn das Smartphone die Standortdaten nach Hause telefoniert” vorgeschlagen. War aber wahrscheinlich zu nerdig.

Constanze Kurz hat in ihrer FAZ-Kolumne die Idee kommentiert, dass Menschen für das tauschen von Kultur das Internet genommen wird und weshalb wir ein Grundrecht auf Internetzugang brauchen. Dabei verwendet sie die gute Analogie zum Hand abhacken, die etwas weniger martialisch klingt als die “digitale Todesstrafe”, was wir hier im Blog mal diskutiert haben: Das Recht auf Dabeisein.

In Deutschland wäre dieser Rücksturz in eine mittelalterliche Bestrafungsmentalität – Hackt dem Dieb die Hand ab! – mit einiger Wahrscheinlichkeit verfassungswidrig. Das hindert aber Politiker nicht mehr daran, es trotzdem zu fordern. Mögen auch der öffentliche Aufruhr und der Gang nach Karlsruhe absolute Gewissheit sein, einige Politiker wie Angelika Krüger-Leißner von der SPD halten den Entzug des Netzes als Strafe für ein ordnungspolitisches Muss. Da hatte wohl die filmpolitische Beauftragte der Sozialdemokraten vor allem Einflüsterungen der Industrie im Ohr. Doch auf der einen Seite den modernen Online-Staat zu wollen und auf der anderen Seite anachronistische Höchststrafen ins Digitalzeitalter einzuführen, das passt nicht zusammen.

In der heutigen FAZ hab ich die Debatte rund um die Speicherung von Standortdaten durch Smartphone-Hersteller am Beispiel von Apple kommentiert. Die Kolumne ist aber leider hinter einer Paywall versteckt.

Das Handelsblatt hat ausführlich über die “Suche nach der Sicherheit – Wer mit der Angst der Menschen Profit macht” berichtet. Das ist lesenswert. In dem Artikel geht es von der Vogelgrippe über die Privatisierung der (US-)Militärs bis zu den erhöhten Sicherheitsvorkehrungen auf deutschen Flughäfen.

Der Terror hat die Menschen ängstlicher gemacht. Sie verlangen nach mehr Sicherheit – beim Reisen, beim Essen, beim Geldanlegen. Für die Bevölkerung birgt die Angst nur Negatives – doch für den Markt wird sie zum neuen Milliardengeschäft.

Die Sendung Breitband bei Deutschlandradio Kultur hat heute über den Trend zur Internetthese berichtet: “Das Netz ist groß – Alle verfassen Internetthesen, was bringt das?”

Der Trend geht zur Internetthese. Im Herbst erschien das Internet-Manifest mit 17 Thesen zu Internet und Journalismus. Jetzt schwappte eine regelrechte Thesenschwemme durchs Netz. Innenminister Thomas de Maiziére stellte 14 Thesen zu “Perspektiven deutscher Netzpolitik” vor. Das Blog Aggregat 7 antwortete mit “Zehn Thesen”, der Chaos Computer Club mit elf “Forderungen für ein lebenswertes Netz”. Derzeitiger Thesen-Rekordhalter ist Blogger 137b zeitweise. “Das Netz ist groß”, lautet seine erste These, “Und eine Antwort auf alle Fragen”, schließt Nummer 42. Wir sprechen mit Markus Heidmeier über die verschiedenen Ansätze und wollen wissen: Woher kommt der Thesen-Boom, und was bringt er? Sind Internetthesen monologische Mantras oder sinnvoller Dialog?

Jürgen Kuri, der stellvertretender Chefredakteur der c´t und Kopf hinter dem Heise-Ticker, war zu Gast beim Medienradio. Wer immer schonmal wissen wollte, wie der Heise-Ticker und die verwandten Verlagsangebote funktionieren und wie man den Troll-Zoo in den eigenen Foren hütet, sollte sich die Folge anhören.

Der Heise-Verlag liefert so lange wie kaum ein anderes deutsches Medium Inhalte gedruckt und im Netz aus. Zur alten c´t gesellte sich 1996 der Heise Newsticker auf heise.de. Jürgen Kuri ist stellvertretender Chefredakteur der c´t und damit auch verantwortlich für den Newsticker. Er berichtet aus dem Innenleben der Redaktion, über das Verhältnis von Print zu Online und zeigt auf, wie sich private Verlage von öffentlich-rechtlich finanzierten Netz-Angeboten abheben können.

Der Bund deutscher Kriminalbeamter hat vergangene Woche die dämliche Idee eines Reset-Buttons fürs Internet im Bundeskanzleramt in die deutsche Debatte gebracht. In den USA wurde diese auch diskutiert, und von allen klar denkenden Menschen dankend abgelehnt. Der Sicherheitsexperte Bruce Schneier hat zu dem Thema gebloggt und bringt diverse Argumente vor, warum ein zentraler Reset-Button aus Sicherheitsgründen Schwachsinn ist: Internet Kill Switch.

The third flawed assumption is that we could build this capability securely. We can’t. Once we engineered a selective shutdown switch into the Internet, and implemented a way to do what Internet engineers have spent decades making sure never happens, we would have created an enormous security vulnerability. We would make the job of any would-be terrorist intent on bringing down the Internet much easier. Computer and network security is hard, and every Internet system we’ve ever created has security vulnerabilities. It would be folly to think this one wouldn’t as well. And given how unlikely the risk is, any actual shutdown would be far more likely to be a result of an unfortunate error or a malicious hacker than of a presidential order.

But the main problem with an Internet kill switch is that it’s too coarse a hammer. Yes, the bad guys use the Internet to communicate, and they can use it to attack us. But the good guys use it, too, and the good guys far outnumber the bad guys. Shutting the Internet down, either the whole thing or just a part of it, even in the face of a foreign military attack would do far more damage than it could possibly prevent. And it would hurt others whom we don’t want to hurt.
